Overview

You will be picked up for the safari at about 6:45am by a Company representative for the road trip to Kidepo National Park driving through beautiful remote vegetation to the northern part of the country, with a lunch stopover in Gulu, before proceeding to Kitgum for dinner and overnight at Bomah hotel for mid-range facilities or Cactus Hotel for the budget option.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Entebbe – Kampala

Arrive Entebbe International Airport for a warm meet and greet and transfer to Kampala for the night. A drive around Kampala city will be possible if your flight arrives earlier in the day.

Dinner and overnight at  Cassia Lodge (moderate facility)  or Eliana Hotel  – (budget facility)

Day 2: Kampala to Kitgum

You will be picked up from your overnight accommodation to start off your fun road trip at about 7:00am. Today we are driving on tar roads through beautiful remote vegetation and via Karuma falls for spectacular views of river Nile as we head north of Uganda. Optional: stopover for rhino tracking at Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary and thereafter continue to Gulu town for lunch before, proceeding to Kitgum.

Dinner and overnight at Bomah Hotel for mid-range facilities or Cactus Hotel for the budget option.  ( Please note: Kitgum town is not offering high-end hotels yet)

Day 3: Kitgum – Kidepo valley National Park

After a restful night have a relaxed breakfast and continue on the journey to one of Africa’s finest wildernesses through the remote villages and homesteads of the Acholi and Karamojong people, to finally arrive this famous valley that is home of Kidepo National Park.

This park is one of the most beautiful in Africa, and is voted third best on the continent by the CNN travel channel. Check in and have lunch at your overnight accommodation. Opt for a restful afternoon/evening or go out for a game drive in search of wildlife which include: giant eland, zebras, Jackson’s hartebeest hyenas, bat-eared fox, lions, giraffes, elephants, leopards and more.

Return to the lodge for a refreshing, dinner and overnight in this wilderness at  Nga Moru Wilderness Camp (mid-range) or Kidepo Savannah Lodge (budget facility)

Meal plan: breakfast-lunch-dinner.

Note: Its possible to opt for camping. The two camping sites are facilitated with water and latrines (drop pits). The park provides a park ranger to protect you and make your stay in the park safe. (For camping a quote is sent on request)

Day 4: Kidepo National Park – Game drive, nature walk and hot springs depending on the weather.

Depart in the morning after breakfast,, and carry with you packed lunch for the game drive that will end up at the hot springs (Note: the hot spring are not accessible during rain season) via the palm trees lined along Kidepo River, in search for Ostriches, leopards, tortoises, lions and more. The game drive  search continues till lunch time. We will have our packed lunch in the wilderness and thereafter stretch our legs on a guided nature walk in the park accompanied by an armed ranger. Bring well charged cameras for this activity, the photo opportunities here are magnificent. Thereafter return to the hotel to refresh, relax and have time to enjoy the evening in a wilderness like no other.

Dinner and overnight at  Nga Moru Wilderness Camp (mid-range) or Kidepo Savannah Lodge ( budget facility) or Uganda Wildlife Authority camp site for camping.

Day 5: Kidepo valley National Park to Gulu

After a relaxed breakfast transfer to Gulu for lunch and spend the night there.  Gulu, is the biggest town north of Uganda with its growth curtailed by the insurgency, caused by the lord’s resistance Army for several years before it ended a couple of years ago.

Life is back to normal with busy streets and safety guaranteed to allow visitors  move freely. Today the afternoon is free for you to rest and unwind but, the option for a drive around town to see the local markets is open to you.  Note: only mid range and budget accommodations are available here.

Dinner and overnight at Bomah Hotel (mid-range facility) or Churchill Courts (budget facility)

Meal plan: breakfast-lunch-dinner.

Day 6: Gulu – Entebbe/flight home

Depart Gulu at 7:30am after a relaxed breakfast, full of safari memories about Kidepo Valley National Park, head to Kampala for lunch. Thereafter have a look around the curio shops before continuing to drop you off at Entebbe International Airport to check in for your night flight home.
